MANGALURU: As the government has failed to respond to their demands, the Action Committee Against Surathkal Toll Gate has decided to hold a mock funeral procession and cremation, as a mark of protest.
Though the Surathkal toll gate is functioning within 60km from two national highway (NH) plazas in either direction, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has not taken any initiative to close it, even though Union minister of road transport and highways
Nitin Gadkari has given an assurance for the same. The action committee will hold a mock funeral procession and cremation, demanding the closure of the Surathkal toll gate, and urge for the urgent repair of potholes on NH-66 in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, said action committee convener Muneer Katipalla.
“The NH-66 stretch from Byndoor to Talapady is not in a motorable condition due to potholes. Several accidents have been reported on the stretch due to it. The authorities have not taken up emergency repair works,” he said.
