
Monsoon Updates, July 20: Parts of Delhi witnessed rain on Thursday morning, bringing down the mercury level on even as the weather office predicted moderate rains during the day. The minimum temperature was recorded at 24.5 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal. The weather department has issued another ‘yellow’ alert for city today, with light to moderate rainfall on the forecast. Moderate rainfall is also expected on Friday and Saturday, while light rainfall is a possibility on Sunday.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Wednesday issued a red alert for Kutch, Mehsana, Sabarkantha and Aravalli on July 23, while heavy rainfall is expected in Kutch, Jamnagar and Devbhoomi Dwarka on July 24. Revenue Minister Rajendra Trivedi said that as per directions of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel all the administrations concerned have been alerted and asked to remain prepared.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted “enhanced rainfall activity” over northwest India for two-three days. The Safdarjung Observatory, Delhi’s primary weather station, has recorded 189.6 mm of rainfall against a normal of 201 mm since the start of the monsoon season on June 1.
Even though the meteorological office projected moderate rainfall for the next two days, rain in numerous areas of Delhi on Thursday caused the maximum temperature to dip two notches below usual.
According to the meteorological office, the day's high temperature was 33.1 degrees Celsius, and the low temperature, 24.5 degrees Celsius, was three degrees below average.
The city, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), got 56.6 mm of rain between Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. and Thursday at 8:30 a.m.
Thursday's rainfall totals were 3.5 mm at the SPS Mayur Vihar observatory, 1 mm in Jafarpur, 2.5 mm in Najafgarh, and 0.5 mm in Pusa.
Heavy traffic was recorded on numerous important segments as a result of rain and waterlogging, including the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, the intersection of Bhairon Marg and Ring Road, Vikas Marg, and the Delhi Noida Direct Flyway, the AIIMS underpass, and Sarai Kale Khan. (PTI)
According to experts and government officials, Jharkhand is on its way to an early season drought due to a 51% rainfall deficit this monsoon.
They claimed that seeding of paddy is now less than 10% due to monsoon rains missing the state during the prime sowing season.
The experts declared that the best time for planting paddy had passed on July 20.
In Jharkhand, farmers typically start preparing their fields for planting on June 15. By July 1, the full-fledged sowing activity starts, and it lasts until July 31. However, according to experts, the best time to plant paddy is between July 1 and July 20. (PTI)
The Telangana government has sought immediate financial assistance of Rs 1,000 crore from the Centre, after arriving at an estimated loss of Rs 1,400 crore to floods in its northern and eastern districts last week.

The Pune-headquartered Southern Command of the Indian Army has launched a flood relief effort, Operation Varsha-22, to undertake evacuation, rescue and medical response in various states affected by flooding.
Respective local formations have over the last few days responded to flood situations that arose in Telangana and Maharashtra. At other places in the area of responsibility of the Southern Command, relief teams comprising engineering and medical columns are on standby, officials said. Delhi is likely to see another spell of rain Thursday with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) having issued a ‘yellow’ alert for ‘moderate’ rainfall.
