Jamshedpur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited Chakulia-based environmentalist and Padma Shri Jamuna Tudu to the farewell dinner of outgoing President Ram Nath Kovind. The PM requested her to join the dinner at the Ashoka hotel in Delhi on July 22.
“It will be a pleasure to join the farewell dinner of Rashtrapati ji. More so, because I had received the Padma award from him,” Tudu said. She was conferred Padma Shri in 2019 for her contribution towards conserving the environment.
“I will take up the matter of illegal mining with the PM if I get the chance to speak,” said Tudu, who will be flying to the national capital on Thursday.
The cases of illegal sand and emerald stone mining have been reported from parts of Chakulia, Dhalbhumgarh. Called “Lady Tarzan” for taking on the timber mafia, Tudu founded the Van Suraksha Samiti, a group of women working for the protection of forest.
On July 8, Jamuna led a group of women to the Nagababa temple in her home town, and offered 51 coconuts for the victory of Droupadi Murmu.
