Dalit activist’s body exhumed after kin express suspicion over death

Mangaluru: The body of Dalit activist P Deekaiah was exhumed on Monday after his family said they had doubts over his death.
The family filed a complaint with Belthangady police that they had suspicion regarding the activist’s death. Deekaiah passed away about 10 days ago.
The intimation about his death was not given to the police earlier.
On Monday, the body was exhumed in the presence of the tahsildar at the burial place at Poyya in Kaniyoor.
Dakshina Kannada SP Rishikesh Sonawane said the family had filed a complaint.
Following this, an unnatural death report was registered and then the body was exhumed.
Other procedures will be followed, he said.
