Coimbatore: Two mobile forensic laboratories allotted to the Tirupur city and Coimbatore rural police are expected to ensure quick retrieval of forensic evidence and speedy disposal of cases.
The mobile units will help to analyse blood stains, explosives and psychotropic substances at crime scenes, said a scientific officer. “The vehicles have kits to detect blood stains and explosive materials. Another kit will help us to trace heroin, ketamine and other psychotropic substances on the spot,” he said. “We can also check presence of blood stains with the help of a device that emits ultraviolet ray.”
Tirupur city police commissioner A G Babu inspected the vehicle at the city police commissionerate last week.
The state government had allotted mobile forensic laboratories to Chennai, Trichy, Salem, Tirunelveli and Tirupur police commissionerates and forensic units of Coimbatore, the Nilgiris, Madurai, Villupuram, Ramanathapuram, Vellore, Dharmapuri and Thanjavur districts. Chief minister M K Stalin flagged off the vehicles, worth 3.92 crore, in Chennai, on July 1.
