Vijayapura:
Justice was served, albeit belatedly, in the case of a woman who was murdered 11 years ago in Andhra Pradesh, with the arrest of three individuals by Muddebihal police in Vijayapura district. Priyanka also known as Daneshwari, died on July 25, 2011, three years after she married Huchchappagouda Patil, her maternal uncle.
Daneshwari’s father Basavaraj Siddalingappa Mamadapur said that his daughter had married Patil in 2008, with whom she had been living in Muddebihal.
“After getting married, Daneshwari would call on us in Vijayapura without informing us. She had once told us that she was in love with a boy in Vijayapura, whom she wanted to be with. In July 2011, Patil called us, and told us that Daneshwari had left her home in Muddebihal. We inquired our relatives, and her known friends, but got no information. When we thought of filing a police complaint, our son-in-law advised us against it, worried that it may tarnish the reputation of both the families,” Mamadapur said.
Patil allegedly spilled the beans about his wife’s sudden disappearance only recently, when he informed Mamadapur’s brother Ashok.
Brother, driver involved“Patil reportedly took my daughter to Srishailam in Andhra Pradesh under the pretext of seeking the blessings of Lord Mallikarjun on July 24, 2011. While returning home, he murdered Daneshwari, with the help of his brother, Siddanagouda Patil and driver, Umesh Kamalapur in Manthanalam village near the Korapuru checkpost in Andhra Pradesh,” the bereaved father said.
Muddebihal circle police inspector Anand Waghmode said that all the three people involved in the murder had been arrested, and remanded in judicial custody.
