Ludhiana: There is no respite in firing incidents in Ludhiana as criminal gangs continue to fight it out to claim supremacy.
Importantly, the key members of these gangs are still out of the reach of the police despite being wanted in several cases. The Ludhiana police have failed to arrest them despite their activeness on the social media. Hours before Sunday evening’s firing at Sector 32, one of the wanted accused Raman Rajput had updated a post on his social media account threatening his rival Vishal Gill, also a wanted criminal. Rajput wrote, ‘Do not run this time, as you did previously. Remember Sector 32 firing?’. In reply, Vishal Gill said, “Will meet you soon”.

On Sunday evening, members of two rival groups were involved in a clash and firing at Sector 32 market. They attacked each other with stones and bricks before one of the group opened fire at the rivals. Nobody was injured in the incident. The division number 7 police had found four bullet shells from the spot.
Till Monday evening, the police could not reveal the names of the accused involved in the clash.
Inspector Davinder Sharma, SHO, division number 7 police station, said, “There was no complainant in this case. Therefore, the police lodged an FIR on the basis of the information received and booked unidentified members of two rival groups. One of the groups had come to Sector 32 market for a birthday celebration when members of the rival group reached there. They threw bricks and stones and thereafter the second group opened fire.”
A case has been registered under Sections 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), 160 (punishment for committing affray) of the IPC and relevant sections of the Arms Act.
According to sources, Raman Rajput and Pankaj Rajput were earlier associates of Vishall Gill, Major Sidhu and Puneet Bains. However recently, they parted ways following some issues between them. The social media updates of these notorious criminals also confirm the same in which they are using abusive language against each other while issuing open threats.
‘Special strategy to nab notorious criminals’
Ludhiana police commissioner Kaustubh Sharma said, “We are concerned over the issue. Therefore, we have made a special strategy to nab them. We have got new officers who have been appointed on this task. All those involved in such incidents, who still have not been arrested, would be nabbed.”
