Peter Dinklage has joined the cast of The Hunger Games prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

Variety reports that the Game of Thrones actor will play Casa Highbottom in the upcoming film. According to Entertainment Weekly, the character is described as the dean of the Academy and the unintentional creator of the Hunger Games.

The film will centre on 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow, played by Tom Blyth, years before he became the authoritarian president of Panem. As the 10th Hunger Games approaches, he is assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird, played by Rachel Zegler, the tribute for District 12.

Nathan Kahane, the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group president, said in a statement that Dinklage is not only a fan favourite actor but also brings gravitas to every role he plays.

"He is one of the best actors alive. He will bring a formidable, charismatic authority to the important role of the dean of the Academy," he said.

Director Francis Lawrence added: "Dean Highbottom is one of the most powerful people in Snow's life. As the austere and vindictive face of the games, he sets the rules that will determine every aspect of Coriolanus's fate. I'm thrilled that Peter will be bringing him to life."

Other cast members include Josh Andrés Rivera, Jason Schwartzman and Hunter Schafer. Producion is currently underway reports Deadline.
