Harassed over ₹30k debt, home guard ends life

Ludhiana: A Punjab home guard committed suicide at his house in Bhora village on Sunday evening. Police have lodged an FIR against some financiers from whom the home guard had reportedly borrowed money. The deceased, Husan Lal, 48, had been deployed at Janakpuri police post under division number 2 area.
In her complaint to police, Husan’s wife Kuldeep Kaur said her husband had borrowed Rs 30,000 from the accused on interest. The accused had been harassing him for the money because of which he committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance. He was rushed to a hospital but the doctors declared him dead.
ASI Kulwinder Singh, investigating officer, said the police have recovered a suicide note from the room of the home guard in which he stated that he had borrowed Rs 30,000 from the accused against which he was paying interest. He got late in paying for the interest of July, following which the accused came to his house and threatened him. They humiliated him and also threatened to deposit the security cheque of Rs 1.50 lakh so that they could drag him to the court, once the cheque bounces. Unable to take the harassment, he ended his life, his wife claimed.
The ASI said on the basis of the suicide note, the Salem Tabri police lodged an FIR against Mattu Sahib Finance, Preet Finance, Rinku and one unidentified accused under Sections 306 (abetment to suicide) and 34 (Act done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC.
