TIRUPUR: The Salem division of Southern Railway on Tuesday temporarily renamed the Tirupur railway station after freedom fighter Tirupur Kumaran to honour the sacrifice made by him during the freedom struggle.
The station is named 'Thyagi Tirupur Kumaran Railway Station', and the board containing the name would be seen for a period of five days at the entrance of the station.
Railway officials said that the temporary name change is a part of the week-long celebrations under ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsava’ to commemorate 75 years of
Independence.
Salem division is organising the celebrations at Tirupur Railway station to pay tributes to the freedom fighters in the district. A photo exhibition and a selfie booth have also been made available for the public.
