VADODARA: Train services thrown out of gear due to the derailment of a goods train near Mangal Mahudi in Dahod district of Gujarat resumed from the affected section.
The spiralling effect of the disruption on Monday and Tuesday, however, continued to show its effect on some trains.
In all, 58 trains were diverted and 39 were cancelled till Tuesday morning in wake of the derailment that took place after Sunday midnight.
Coaches of the goods train fell on both sides the tracks. The overhead power cables and tracks were also damaged in the incident.
The incident took place in Dahod district in Gujarat, but the site falls under the jurisdiction of the Ratlam division in Madhya Pradesh.
The tracks towards Ratlam were the first to get repaired. The Udhna-Banaras Superfast special train was the first train to cross the repaired portion of the track at around noon on Tuesday.
The track towards Vadodara also became functional later in the afternoon. The first train to pass the restored section was Howrah-Bandra Express at around 3.30pm on Tuesday.
Sources said that trains were clearing the affected parts of the train at a very slow speed. Continuous inspection of the tracks was also being conducted even after the repairs had been completed.
Some trains departing on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday had to be cancelled, rescheduled or short terminated due to unavailability of rakes or delays in their pairing trains. In all, 10 trains were cancelled, five were rescheduled and three were short terminated.
The reasons for the major derailment were being probed by the top brass of the railways.
