BERHAMPUR: The Kandhamal district administration on Monday started an inquiry into the death of a Class IV student at a state-run hostel for tribal children at Kadipari under Gochhapada block on Sunday night.
The deceased, Jangan Kanhar (10), son of Bada Kanhar of Tingiritika village in Gochhapada block, was residing at the primary school hostel, run by the scheduled caste and scheduled tribe development department.
“The exact cause of the student’s death is yet to be known. It will be ascertained only after getting the post-mortem report. The district welfare officer (DWO) is conducting an inquiry into the matter,” said Kandhamal collector Patil Ashish Ishwar.
DWO Simanchal Behera said the hostel superintendent had taken four inmates, including Jangan, to the Gochhapada community health centre after they complained of fever on Sunday. The doctorsreferred Jangan to the district headquarters hospital, Phulbani, after his condition deteriorated at night.
