Tamil Nadu records 2,316 new Covid cases; 596 in Chennai

CHENNAI: A 52-year-old man from Virudhunagar district died of Covid-19, and there was a marginal drop in the number of new infections in Tamil Nadu. On Sunday, 2,316 people tested positive for the infection.
Even as the number of new Covid-19 cases in Tamil Nadu continues to hover around the 2,300-mark for the third consecutive day, the active case count has been on the decline. As many as 17,085 patients are undergoing treatment in the state.
The overall Test Positivity Rate (TPR) has reduced in Tamil Nadu in the last one week. From 8%, it has come down to 6.9% now. Similar trends were seen in disease hotspots like Chennai (596 new cases), Chengalpet (354) and Coimbatore (164).
Health minister Ma Subramanian told reporters that wearing masks and getting vaccinated alone would help prevent deaths and further spread of the disease. "People should wear masks whenever they go out as experts have been repeatedly saying that we will be living with such viruses in the future." On the spread of monkeypox in Kerala, the minister said that all 13 inter-state border checkposts have been put on alert in addition to international airports where random checks (two percent) are conducted.
