"From the sick and twisted minds of the creator of Euphoria, Sam Levinson and Abel' The Weeknd' Tesfaye," reads the start of the teaser trailer for The Idol.

The footage then launches into a hyperactive montage of Hollywood mansions, wild nights out, fast cars and "more, more, more" cocaine.

Per the show's synopsis, "a self-help guru and leader of a modern-day cult enters a complicated relationship with a rising pop idol." The Weeknd portrays the self-help guru and cult leader, while Lily-Rose Depp plays the rising pop star named Jocelyn.

In addition, The Idol stars Troye Sivan, Debby Ryan, Rachel Sennott, Steve Zisis, Hari Nef, Juliebeth Gonzalez, Anne Heche and Elizabeth Berkley. Also spotted in the trailer: Singer Jennie from the group Blackpink.

According to Variety, the show has had a few speedbumps leading up to its premiere date, which has not yet been shared. This includes Amy Seimetz's exit from her role as director on the project in April.

Production had already filmed multiple episodes at the time of Seimetz's departure, and sources indicated that the show would be reworked to fit a new creative direction.

This is Depp's first TV role, while her co-star The Weeknd makes his official acting debut in the series.
