Afghanistan jolted again by back-to-back 5.1 and 4.3-magnitude earthquakes

KABUL: Two earthquakes of 5.1 and 4.3 magnitude hit Afghanistan's east and northeast regions respectively on Monday, local media reported.
As per the Tolo News citing US Geological Survey, an earthquake of 5.1-magnitude jolted the eastern Afghanistan region at 4.52 pm (local time), soon after a 4.3-magnitude quake hit the northeast.
The Taliban has confirmed that at least 10 people were injured after the earthquake struck eastern Gayan district in Paktika province.
Abdul Wahid Rayan, director of Bakhtar, Taliban's news agency, said the quake in the remote area happened late Monday afternoon.
The US Geological Survey reported the other magnitude 5.1 quake near Khost.
Monday's quake happened in the same area as a powerful quake last month in eastern Afghanistan, igniting yet another crisis for the struggling country and further underscoring the Taliban's limited capabilities and isolation.
On June 22, an earthquake of 5.9 magnitude hit several parts of Afghanistan, including capital Kabul, killing over 1,000 people.
In addition, at least 1,455 people were injured across three of the six most-affected districts of Barmal, Giyan, and Spera - many of them seriously. Over 10,000 houses were destroyed.
