MUMBAI: The BJP state women minority cell president Sultana Khan was allegedly assaulted on her left hand with a sharp object by two bike-borne men in Mira Road on Sunday night.
The car in which Khan was travelling with her husband was intercepted and the windshield was damaged.
A resident of Shanti Nagar, Khan and her husband Sameer were headed to meet a party functionary in Naya Nagar at around 11.30pm. When the vehicle reached the road running parallel to the Mira Road railway station, two men on a motorbike intercepted the car.
They first broke the windshield and headed to the back seat where Khan and her husband were seated. They broke the glass, hurled abuses at Khan and assaulted her on the left hand.
Sources in the BJP said that Khan is believed to have angered a section of the party workers for making statements on a social media platform against a senior central BJP leader from the minority community.
The assailants, who were masked, fled towards Naya Nagar. Khan was taken to the nearby hospital where she is said to be stable.
The Naya Nagar police has registered a case of attempt to murder against the assailants. Closed circuit television images of the locality are being examined.
