96 per cent turnout for NEET in Bhubaneswar

National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) was conducted at 106 examination centres in Odisha on Sunday for admission to the undergraduate medical courses in medical institutions. The capital city witnessed 96 per cent turnout for this examination.

BHUBANESWAR: National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) was conducted at 106 examination centres in Odisha on Sunday for admission to the undergraduate medical courses in medical institutions. The capital city witnessed 96 per cent turnout for this examination.
The test was conducted at 18 examination centres in the city. Out of 12,817 candidates registered for appearing for the test at Bhubaneswar, 12,302 candidates appeared for the test on Sunday. The capital received the highest number of examination centres and candidates.
Students were provided with face masks at different examination centres. Thermal scanning was conducted to read the temperature of the candidates entering the venue. Gate was closed by 1.30pm. The test started at 2pm and completed at 5.20pm. This year, extra 20 minutes have been given to the examinees.

Around one lakh seven thousand candidates had registered with the National Testing Agency (NTA) to appear for the NEET in Odisha's 28 cities/towns. Most of the centres reported around 95 per cent attendance. It was seen that some centres received a few candidates aged more than 50.


The candidates followed physically distancing rules while taking their seats in the centres after thermal screening. “All precautions have been taken to ensure the safety of students during this pandemic time. Examination was conducted smoothly without any problem,” said Poly Patnaik, NEET coordinator and principal of Mother's Public School, Bhubaneswar.

She said most of the examination centres have reported around 95 per cent attendance in the NEET. “We are yet to get exact numbers of candidates appearing for the entrance test in all 106 centres. Gradually it will come,” she added.


Minati Hembram, who attended an examination centre in the city, said physics and chemistry were a bit tough for her. “Biology subject was easy to answer. It was my first attempt. I was aware about the rules while entering into the centre,” she added.
