Tamil Nadu: 33-year-old woman dies hugging son’s body

CHENNAI: A mother died hugging her son’s body minutes after it arrived at her home in Chengalpet on Sunday morning.
Her son died after a fall on Saturday. The victim Shanthi, 33, and her husband Raja, 38, of J J Nagar in Singaperumal Koil were living with their sons Jai Ganesh, 15 and Tharun, 12.
Jai Ganesh had completed Class X and had applied for a diploma course. On Saturday, he was playing with his friends near his house when he fell unconcious. His friends rushed home and informed his parents. He developed uneasiness and was struggling to breathe when he was rushed to Chengalpet government hospital.
His body was brought after performing a postmortem. His mother remained inconsolable. Her relatives' effort to pacify her went in vain, as she swooned twice. Jai Ganesh, her elder son, is said to be the most pampered one in the family.
“Shanthi hugged her son’s body and did not wake up for a long time only when the people realised that she was unconscious,” said a police officer. They rushed her to Chengalpet government hospital where the cause of death was found to be cardiac arrest.
