RANCHI: Congress on Sunday said it would take legal action against BJP IT cell’s chief Amit Malviya and others for uploading fabricated video on the social media site earlier this week to defame Congress leader Ajoy Kumar over his purported remarks on NDA’s presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu.
Kumar landed himself in a controversy over his alleged remarks about Murmu’s nomination for President’s post during an interview to a news agency. Kumar, according to BJP, dubbed Murmu’s nomination as ‘evil philosophy’ of the country.
Congress, however, said Kumar’s statement was twisted by BJP to suit its agenda. State Congress president Rajesh Thakur, along with rural development minister and Pakur MLA Alamgir Alam, announced to file legal cases against the BJP leader.
Party spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan said, “State unit of Congress will soon lodge a case in Ranchi’s Kotwali police station against Amit Malviya, Union minister Smriti Irain and party worker Priti Gandhi under IPC and IT act. Out of one minute interview of Kumar, BJP edited a 14-second clip to distort the context and defame our leader.”
