Haveri: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) working president and MLC Saleem Ahmed criticised the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government for using central investigation agencies such as the Income Tax department, the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation to harass leaders of the opposition.
Ahmed, interacting with representatives of the media in Haveri on Sunday, said, “Former All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Rahul Gandhi is being harassed by the Enforcement Directorate. He has been interrogated for more than 50 hours, despite the lack of evidence. Not only is the BJP doing this at the Centre, but opposition leaders in Karnataka too are being harassed. The Congress has decided to launch the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ to raise awareness among the people about the politics of vengeance followed by the BJP. In Karnataka, the yatra will extend to 500km, which will last 22 days.”
Saleem Ahmed said that the party would organise a 75-kilometre rally in each assembly segment to mark the 75th year of Independence. “We will hold a huge convention in Bengaluru on August 15, where AICC leaders, senior state functionaries will be in attendance at the event,” he said.
