Mysuru: According to the data compiled by the district administration, 581 houses were damaged in rain and flood-related incidents in Mysuru between June 1 and July 15.
According to deputy commissioner Bagadi Gautham, of these 581 houses, 83 are fully damaged, while 498 are partially damaged. However, no rainfall-induced displacement of people or loss of life has been recorded in the district. One cow has died in the district.
As per the data compiled by the district administration, district witnessed no damage to roads.
Nearly 150 hectares of crop loss were reported in the district. As many as 40 electric poles and 25 transformers were also damaged in the rain. “Hunsur, KR Nagar, and Periyapatna are the worst affected by the rain,” explained the DC.
Excess rainfall
According to the data released by the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) between June 1 and July 15, Mysuru district recorded 47% excess rainfall.
The actual rainfall for the district in this period is 155mm. However, the district received 228mm of rainfall. Periyapatna (318.3mm), HD Kote (297.2mm), Hunsur (209.2mm), Saragur (278.6mm), KR Nagar (236.2mm), Mysuru (177.3mm), Nanjangud (160.4mm), and T Narasipura received 144.1mm rainfall .
Meanwhile, good rainfall has brought back smiles on the faces of farmers. They informed that they have not faced any major problems in the district including shortage of fertilisers or seeds.
Rajya Raitha Sangha general secretary Hosakote Basavaraj said the rain didn’t damage the crops much. “There is no fertiliser and seed shortage in the district so far,” he told STOI.
