KOCHI: The
Kerala HC has allowed the medical termination of pregnancy of a 15-yearold rape survivor in her 24th week besides ordering the constitution of a medical team for conducting the procedure.
The court o rdered that a state-run hospital should ensure that the procedure is carried out. It, however, said if the baby is alive at birth, the hospital shall ensure the best medical treatment for the newborn.
The HC said that if the petitioner was not willing to take the baby’s responsibility, the state and its agencies shall assume full resp onsibility and offer medical support and facilities to the newborn.
