Dharwad: The Outcome-Based Education (OBE) is the vehicle that can effectively deliver National Education Policy (NEP-2020) by providing a framework to align curriculum design, pedagogy and assessment, said prof Siddu P Algur, vice-chancellor of Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University.
He was speaking on the OBE model at a meeting of VCs of universities in
Karnataka to discuss the ‘Role of OBE in NEP-2020 implementation’ organised by Karnataka State Higher Education Academy here on Saturday. “It also helps enhance cognitive, psychomotor and attitudinal skills of students by offering futuristic curriculum,” he said.
Prof Gopalakrishna Joshi, director of Higher Education Council (Bengaluru), who spoke on ‘Reforms in assessment’, said it can happen only at course level and it is directly proportionate to learning success. “Education system can only be revised by bringing assessment reforms. NEP-2020 is a collection of best practices. It creates teaching-learning eco-system. The aspiration of NEP-2020 is that tutors teach as per the needs of stakeholders or students,” he said.
Director of Karnataka State Higher Education Academy, prof S M Shivaprasad, spoke on ‘Cognition and Teaching-Learning Experience’. “NEP enables students to decide what to study, when to study, where to study and how to study. The credit transfer is the biggest challenge in NEP. Therefore, universities should aim for uniformity in curriculum and raise the standards of academia,” Shivaprasad asserted.
Twenty-one VCs of various universities from across the state participated in the meeting and discussed the various aspects of NEP implementation. Prof N H Ayachit, registrar, KLE Tech University, was also present.
Arundhati Kulkarni compered the event.
