The bridge across Otteri Nullah would connect Aspiran Garden and Kilpauk Garden Road
CHENNAI: The city corporation is planning to build three more flyovers to make your commute easier.
The flyovers will come up at Tondiarpet, over the Otteri Nullah to connect Aspiran Garden and Kilpauk Garden road, and over the lake canal to connect Adambakkam and Medavakkam. They will together cost 73.8crore.
The bridge at Tondiarpet will be the longest, with the Greater Chennai Corporation spending 64.9 crore to build 650 metres and the railways building the remaining 200 metres.
The flyover at Kilpauk will cost 5 crore and the one at Adambakkam 3.9 crore.
Both of them are to be less than 200 metres in length.
Corporation commissioner Gagandeep Singh Bedi said the Tondiarpet flyover will ease the frequent pile-up at the Korukkupet level crossing.
The existing narrow and low bridge between Aspiran Garden and Kilpauk will be demolished and reconstructed.
"This is a shorter route and improves connectivity between Ayanavaram and Kilpauk," Gagandeep Singh Bedi said.
The bridge at Adambakkam too will reduce travel time.
The tenders will be called for on Monday. B V Babu, superintendenting engineer of special projects and bridges, said the project will be finished within a year of commencing work.
"We can expect work completion by mid-2023. We may have severe challenges in traffic diversions in Tondiarpet side for which we may need to hold discussions with traffic police," Babu said.
