CHENNAI: A 34-year-old eatery owner who posed as an IIT-M professor and married a woman doctor two years ago has been arrested for cheating and on other charges. The accused also hid the fact that he was married with a child. The accused, V Prabhakaran, of Periyar Street in Jafferkhanpet, owns a tiffin centre with his brothers V Kannadasan, 38, and V Nepoleon, said police. On February 7, 2020,
Prabhakaran married Shanmuga Mayuri, a practising doctor. “Prabhakaran who was in debt, portrayed himself as a biochemistry professor at IIT-M. The girl’s Mumbai’s parents believed him and agreed to the proposal,” said an officer.
“Soon, Mayuri found his activities suspicious, visited IIT-M with her brother and found Prabhakaran had lied all along. She also had email exchanges between Prabhakaran and his first wife and pictures of their baby,” said the officer. The Ashok Nagar All Women Police booked Prabhakaran case under various IPC sections and sent him to jail.
