BENGALURU: He tried to stand up when he fell on the railway track, but he froze at the sight of a train that was speeding towards him. Some passengers on the platform shut their eyes not wanting to witness what could have happened next. But something unexpected unfolded: Two Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel risked their lives and saved the man in the nick of time.
A 25-second video of Friday's incident that happened on platform number 3 at KR Puram railway station has gone viral on social media. It was posted by the RPF, South Western Railway's Bengaluru division.

In the video, a man is seen climbing down from the platform to the track, presumably to cross over. On spotting the approaching train, he is seen trying in vain to climb back onto platform no. 3. Noticing this, RPF constable Pradeep Kumar raced to the man's rescue and pulled him away from the track.
"The incident took place at 10.30am on Friday when a man trying to cross the tracks, fell and possibly froze when he saw the approaching Chennai-Mysuru Shatabdi Express, which has no halt at KR Puram. Swift action by Pradeep Kumar and assistant sub-inspector Ravi GD saved his life," said a senior RPF official. "It is disappointing that passengers continue to cross the tracks rather than use the foot overbridge," he added.

Officials said they are conducting awareness campaigns under 'Mission Jeewan Raksha' to prevent trespassing. "We have collected 83,000 written pledges from passengers to not cross tracks illegally. We will also reward and honour our personnel who save lives and mention their feat in service records," said an official
Quoting a TOI article, RPF India official handle tweeted: "Bravery is not something one is born with, but what one chooses to do when pitted against a difficult situation. In the line of duty, Pradeep Kumar & Ravi risked their own lives to save a man dangerously close to a train".

This is not the first time RPF cops at KR Puram station saved passengers. In 2019, a cop saved the life of a child from a moving train. A woman, carrying luggage in one hand and a two-year-old child in another, was rushing to catch the train. While she managed to board it, the child was dangling from her hand and about to fall under the wheels of the moving train. Mohammad Kutty, a head constable, ran towards her and pushed the child inside the train.
