‘Conversion’ blooper to be corrected

Vadodara: A blooper regarding religious conversions in the Class X Gujarat board textbook will be rectified after staying in the same page for the last many years.
‘The law does permit forceful religious conversion,’ states the social science textbook. Clearly, it’s a typographical error with the word ‘not’ missing that has been carried forward for a few years in the same chapter on the same page. While teachers would have identified the error and may even have reported it, it has remained in the book. The typo had been bothering a teacher in Godhra who decided to take up the issue.
The teacher asked a person known to him to convey the mistake to someone so that it could be corrected. The error was brought to the notice of local BJP members so that they could take it up with the relevant authorities.
“We had been seeing the mistake for years now. It was on the same page and at the same location. I eventually decided it needs to be rectified,” said the teacher.
He said that it has remained on page 171 of Chapter 20 of the book. The chapter is titled ‘Social Problems in India and Challenges’.
BJP Godhra district general secretary Kuldipsinh Solanki said that he took up the matter with the education ministry. Solanki said that he raised the issue with the minister of state for higher and technical education, Kuber Dindor, who hails from the region. “His office even reverted seeking more details,” said Solanki. He added that details had also been sent to state education minister Jitu Vaghani.
