Ministry of defence sets up performance, efficiency audit unit

NEW DELHI: The defence ministry has now set up an institutional mechanism in the shape of an apex committee, with the defence secretary as its chairman, to conduct a performance and efficiency audit of various aspects, including capital arms procurements.
The members of the committee include the Army, Navy and IAF vice chiefs, secretary defence finance, chief of the integrated staff committee, controller general of defence accounts, director general acquisitions and other senior officials. The broad areas identified for the conduct of the performance and efficiency audit include capital defence procurements, provisioning, logistics, inventory levels, maintenance of platforms and the like.
