The crime branch arrested the accused in four separate cases
GURUGRAM: Thirteen people were arrested by the crime branch in the last 24 hours for alleged involvement in four separate cases of theft, murder and planning a revenge killing, police said on Friday.
One of the key cases they solved dates back to December 2021, when a 40-year-old man’s body was found near Gadoli village in Gurugram.
The post mortem report said that the man, Anjani – a Delhi resident – had died of blunt force trauma to his head. After few leads and little clues, police zeroed in on three youngsters and arrested them from Devi Lal Colony of the city on Friday.
During the interrogation, Aftab Raja (22), Kunal (24) and Shahil (23) told cops that they had offered Anjani a lift in Gurugram on December 22 with the intention to steal from him. They took him captive after he sat in a stolen Honda City they were driving.
The three stole Rs 1,500 and his mobile, but Anjani refused to share other financial details. They then made Anjani call his son and threatened him to give the information, but he too refused.
After that, the three killed Anjani with an iron road and dumped his body near Gadoli. “The accused have been taken into police remand,” said ACP (crime) Preet Pal Sangwan.
In the second case, two people — Sameer Khan and Mohammad Shakir — were arrested for stealing a taxi after holding the driver at gunpoint while going from Gurugram to Sohna on July 9. The driver was let go in Palwal as the two accused drove off with the car. Cops have recovered the vehicle.
Five people were also arrested from Manesar for allegedly giving a lift to two others – including an executive of a leading automobile company – and then stealing their wallets, cash and mobile phones. The accused took the passwords of their digital wallets as well, and transferred Rs 27,000 to own accounts. After driving around for two hours, the two hostages were allowed to leave the car in Sector 50. Police suspect that the accused — Vivek alias Bada, Vivek alias Chhota, Chintu, Awadhesh and Sonu — had previously offered lift to people at night and steal from them at gunpoint.
In the fourth case, three people were held for allegedly planning a revenge killing. Kartik, Ankit Pujara and Rohit Chawla told police said one of their friends had been killed in 2020 and six people had been arrested for the murder.
“The prime accused of that murder recently came out on bail and the three hatched a plan to kill him. All of them have criminal records,” said ACP Indiwar. There are four cases against Kartik, 12 against Ankit and one against Mohit for theft and under the Arms Act, the ACP added.
Police have recovered the weapons and vehicles allegedly used be the accused in the four cases.
