GURURGRAM: The department of urban local bodies (ULB) has given
MCG the go-ahead to process two lakh metric tonnes of waste at the Bandhwari landfill site at the rate of Rs 920 per metric tonnes. The total project cost now stands at Rs 18.40 crore. The Gururgramcivic body can now issue the work order to a private agency to begin legacy waste processing at Bandhwari, officials have said.
The ULB department has further directed the municipal corporation to ensure that materials extracted out of the processed waste such as refuse-derived fuel (RDF), compost, construction and demolition (C&D) waste, and inert are being disposed of scientifically following the norms of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The department has asked the MCG to ensure completion of the work within the deadline given by the National Green Tribunal.
“We have received the rate approvals to process two lakh tonnes of waste at Bandhwari. The work order will now be issued so that waste processing at Bandhwari is expedited. The proposal to process another two lakh tonnes of waste is in the pipeline and will soon be sent to the state government so that legacy waste is processed at a faster pace,” said a senior MCG official.
Moreover, the department in a letter to the MCG commissioner Mukesh Kumar Ahuja has clarified that no funds will be released by the state government for this work. The ULB department has also directed the civic body to ensure that payment is not released to the private agency unless waste is cleared from the site and the area is reclaimed.
Senior officials of the civic body have also been directed to keep a check on the daily processing so that the total waste, as per the agreement, is processed in a time-bound manner. The record of the waste also has to be maintained in the measurement book. It is also mentioned in the letter that MCG should provide sufficient space for the development of a sanitary landfill site in accordance with the CPCB norms.
