HUBBALLI: About 25 campaigners from StartInfosysHubli, an online campaign launched a fortnight ago, welcomed Infosys employees at their Tarihal Road campus on Friday.
As Infosys had called a meeting of its employees from North Karnataka, campaigners greeted them with roses and sweets at the main gate. The meeting was said to be the result of the campaign.
Many employees were confused as to whether the gesture came from their human resources department. "Though we were hired by Infosys a year ago, we were allowed to work from home. So we assumed the welcome was from the HR and accepted it," some freshers explained. Some senior employees said they were unsure whether to accept the campaigners' greeting. "We are aware of the ongoing online campaign. As citizens of North Karnataka, we endorse it. But since we work for Infosys, we can't openly support the campaigners. Hence, we were hesitant to accept the roses and sweets given by them," they said.
Santosh Nargund, Sriram Raikar, Sham Nargund, Rupali, and other activists said that the Infosys campus was built in 2018 on 43 acres under a special economic zone.
"The company has developed a 3.64 lakh sqft built-up area to house 1,400 employees, but operations are yet to begin. We filed a petition on change.org and launched a campaign #StartInfosysHubli as Infosys announced new campuses in Indore, Kolkata, Vizag, and other cities. Probably after our campaign, Infosys called a meeting of its employees," they added.
