MADURAI: Madurai district administration on Saturday released a 40-second teaser video in view of the 44th Chess Olympiad torch arriving in Madurai on July 25.
The teaser shows Madurai’s iconic Meenakshi temple and the Teppakulam with a peppy folk music Madurai is known for. Mathichiyam Bala, a folk singer, has rendered his voice for the song.
The district administration has made elaborate arrangements to receive the torch. Madurai is one among the 75 cities selected in the country where the torch is going to travel. The torch is coming to Madurai from Coimbatore, and it will travel to Kanyakumari after that.
“All arrangements are in place to receive the torch in Madurai,” said Madurai collector Dr Aneesh Sekhar.
The torch will be received at Madurai Meenakshi temple and taken around four Chithirai streets. Followed by that, there will be a reception event near the Teppakulam.
The third stop will be Race Course grounds where cultural events are planned. Madurai has been given a two-hour slot for the torch ceremony.
A week-long programme has been arranged in Madurai ahead of torch reception. It would start with a cycle rally on Sunday, said Aneesh Sekhar.
Chess competitions and chess training are conducted for government and corporation school students. A rangoli competition will be conducted in the coming days. Quiz competition, face painting and a fashion show for children would be conducted in view of the Chess Olympiad in Chennai, the collector added.
