Ludhiana: As the residents have started complaining about the mosquitoes in their respective areas, councillors are demanding that the fogging should be intensified in their respective wards. Some even suggest that the municipal corporation MC should declare the fogging schedule for different locations on its website.
On the other hand, civic officials claimed that one-time fogging was enough for the city. The councillors said according to the fogging schedule they will get their turn twice or thrice maximum, which was not sufficient as several areas will remain uncovered.
In fact, the fogging started from July 1 officially, but not many people have seen it happening in their areas.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillor Manju Aggarwal said, “My ward will be fogged twice a month, but not many areas of the ward. This is mere eyewash.” She is planning to meet the MC commissioner Shena Aggarwal to convey that the fogging should be done more extensively.
Meanwhile, the Lok Insaaf Party councillor Swarandeep Singh Chahal said, “Every year, there is a similar practice of fogging where some areas are covered extensively, and some of the areas do not get fogging even once in the entire season."
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) district president and senior councillor Harbhajan Dang said, “We are tired of raising the issue time and again. The fogging should be done with small machines only as those are more effective. If they have to keep the mosquitoes breeding in control, then residents should also be made aware of the precautions.”
Congress councillor Gurpreet Gopi said, “The schedule should be displayed at MC website for public knowledge so that residents should not face any difficulty.” He said every seasons he asks the sweepers in his ward to throw used engine oil over stagnant water as well as in road gulleys, which curbs the breeding of mosquitoes. He said the MC officials should also do this practice so as to prevent breeding.
Medical officer, health wing of MC, Dr Vipul Malhotra said, “As of now, it has not rained much but still fogging is going on ward wise and schedule has also been circulated among the councillors. If required we will intensify the fogging in the city.”
