BELAGAVI: Dengue cases are rising in Belagavi following incessant rain. The district health department reported 60 cases in the district in June and 79 in total. The department staff have been creating public awareness on prevention and management of the disease.
Over 400 suspected dengue patients' blood samples have been sent to a lab. Following rainfall in the district, water was stored in low-level areas and pits, creating a comfortable habitat for dengue-causing mosquitoes.
Every taluk in the Belagavi district has now reported 5-6 cases, totaling 79 cases. About 28 of these cases were reported in Belagavi city, which has residents worried.
Around 3,800 ASHA workers, and 465 health department staff are involved in raising awareness about dengue. To prevent the menace of mosquitoes and protect themselves from dengue, people are advised not to store drinking water for more than 2-3 days. If water is stored for three days, dengue mosquitoes will hatch more larvae.
Dengue mosquitoes bite in the morning and evening, so people should take precautions. No dirty water should be stored inside or outside the house. In case of dengue symptoms including fever, rashes and headache, one must immediately consult a doctor.
Dr MS Palled, district disease controller, said that if dengue cases are found, such areas will be announced dengue-affected areas and further precautionary measures will be taken.
