Rohit Siddha, son of a powerloom worker in Gujarat’s Surat, cracked the Chartered Accountant final examination by securing All India Rank 42. Five students from the state were ranked among the top 50 in the results announced by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India Friday, with Surat girl Shrusti Sanghavi securing the third rank.
Siddha’s family hails from Telangana and has been staying in Surat for years. A bright student who got 92% in Class 12, he lives with his parents and younger sister in a one-room house in EWS quarters in the Dindoli area of Surat.
“I did my BCom as an external student and helped my family financially by taking tuition classes. The monthly income of my father is just Rs 15,000. Therefore, I decided to do the CA course,” Siddha says.
With the fees for coaching too high, a friend told him about classes run by Ravi Chavchariya. “For three years, I got free coaching,” Siddha says, adding that he was expecting a spot among the top 30.

His family though is elated, he adds. “My success has inspired my sister, who now wishes to become a CA.” She is also hoping to enroll with Chavchariya’s ‘CA Stars programme’.
Chavchariya says that in recent years, around 40 students from his programme had cleared the exam and were now practising independently, and some working in multinational corporate companies. “Our intention is to give support to underprivileged students so that they can raise the living standards of their family,” he says.
Shrusti Sanghavi, who ranked third getting 611 marks out of 800, also took coaching under Chavchariya for nine months. Both her father and grandfather are chartered accountants, and she says this inspired her to become one. “The reason behind my unexpected success is the support of my family and my coaching centre,” a delighted Sanghavi told The Sunday Express.
Chavchariya says he wasn’t surprised at Sanghavi’s performance. “She finished her course six months before the exams and regularly gave tests.”
Apart from Sanghavi and Siddha, others among the top 50 from Gujarat are Arun Barona (32nd rank, with 561 marks out of 800), Arham Parekh (37th, 554 marks) and Siddharth Saheriya (40th, 549 marks).
A total of 29,348 students took the CA final exam. In Surat, over 200 students appeared for it.
