VCs to discuss NEP implementation

Dharwad: Karnataka State Higher Education Academy (KSHEA) will hold a meeting of vice-chancellors of all universities in Karnataka at KSHEA’s new campus in Hoysal Nagar here on Saturday from 9.30am to 5pm to discuss the ‘Role of Outcome Based Education (OBE) in NEP-2020 Implentation’. KSHEA director S M Shivaprasad, VC of Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University Siddu P Algur, executive director of Karnataka State Higher Education Council Gopalkrishna Joshi will be resources persons. Shivaprasad will deal with topic ‘Cognition and Teaching-Learning Experience’ while prof Algur will deliberate on ‘Outcome Based Education Model; An Experience Sharing’. In the post-lunch sessions, Joshi will deliberate on ‘Reforms in Assessment’ and Discussion on NEP-2020 Structure and its Implementation’.
510kg red sanders worth Rs 15.3 lakh seized in Channagiri
Davanagere: Channagiri police, headed by DSP K M Santhosh and inspector Madhu P.B, SI Chandrashekhar and others, raided a house in Channagiri town on Thursday evening and recovered illegally stored red sanders (rakta chandana). The logs weighing 510kg are worth Rs 15.30 lakh. A case has been booked at Channagiri police station. Further investigation is on to bust the network, if any. Red sanders are used in preparing Ayurvedic medicine, said police, adding that they will check such crimes.
Seer sets deadline for water project
Davanagere: A meeting of over six hours was held at GMIT guesthouse here on Friday for discussing the pros and cons of Sasvehalli lift-irrigation scheme. Pontiff Shivamurthy Shivacharya of Taralabalu Brihanmutt, Siregere, graced the meet. The ambitious project is aimed at meeting water needs of 131 tanks in Honnali, Shivamogga Rural, Channagiri, Mayakonda, Holalkere, and Chitradurga taluks. The Rs 604-crore project should be completed before January 15, 2023, the pontiff told the authorities. The pontiff further asked the officers to meet again on August 16 to review the work progress. The pontiff directed the authorities to complete the works at Sasvehalli, Channakeshpura, Jakkali, Muttagaduru, including pump house works, on a war-footing. MP G M Siddeshwar asked the officials and the contractors to stick to the date fixed by the pontiff. “Let the water flow by January 15, 2023, into all these tanks,” he said.
Global Business School to hold Bhumika-22 today
Hubballi: Global Business School (GBS) will organise graduation and award ceremony “Bhumika-22” on July 16 at Royal Ritz Resort Amargol, Hubballi. Bhumika-2022 will be inaugurated by chairman of GEN Society, Ramesh Kothari, governing council chairman M S Subhas and GC members, Tejas Vyas, director of GBS. The board members of GBS management have instituted gold and silver medals. At the end of their course, final year students are evaluated under five categories – marketing, finance, human resources, sports, and overall leadership. Tazeentaj Mahat is the coordinator for the event.
NAAC accreditation to KEB College
Dharwad: The National Assessment and Accreditation Council(NAAC) has accredited KE Board’s First-Grade Arts and Commerce College, Savadatti Road, Dharwad, with ‘B’ grade. NAAC committee, headed by Sugam Anand former vice-chancellor of Dr B R Amebdkar University, Agra, Balaguruswamy of Coimbatore and Munindra Konawar of Jorhat Central University, Assam, had visited the college on July 7 and 8. They had assessed the infrastructure and other aspects as prescribed by NAAC and awarded ‘B’ grade, said a release from the college principal. KE Board’s FGC is an unaided private degree college.
Theft at GP office in Dharwad dist
Dharwad: Burglars have fled with Rs 2.60 lakh from a gram panchayat office in Alnavar taluk in Dharwad district. Police said burglars who broke into the GP office at Prabhunagar-Honnapur in the early hours of Thursday, fled with cash, two computers, one laptop, one solar battery, CCTV camera and a DVR. A case has been registered at Alnavar police station.
‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ from August 11
Dharwad: A slew of patriotic programmes have been planned to mark the 75th Independence Day of India across the country. As part of the celebration, ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ abhiyaan will be launched in Dharwad district too. The event which envisages hoisting of the tricolour on the rooftop of every house will be held from August 11 to 17. DC Gurudatt Hegde has called upon people to participate in this Independence Day celebrations with a patriotic spirit and hoist the national flag — following the flag code — atop their houses for seven days. Speaking at the preparatory meeting on Independence Day programme held at his office here on Friday, he said the programme will be celebrated by all government and semi-governemnt offices, institutes (schools and colleges) and people’s organisations and the general public. Hegde said the Union ministry of home affairs has issued revised flag code.
Thieves arrested, valuables seized
Dharwad: Dharwad Suburban police have arrested four persons in connection with theft cases reported in last two years in the city. The arrested have been accused of stealing gold and silver from nine houses and a bar. Police have recovered 105 grams of gold worth Rs 4.20 lakh, 732 grams of silver worth Rs 36,000 and a scooter worth Rs 35,000 from the accused. They were produced in the court which remaned them to judicial custody.
SUCI opposes GST on food items
Dharwad: The Dharwad district unit of Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) has condemned the GST Council’s decision to impose 5% GST on foodgrains like rice, jowar, ragi abd dairy product like curds. SUCI district secretary Ramanjanappa Aldalli said people are already suffering due to a rise in the price of essential goods. GST on food items is like rubbing salt on their wound, he said, adding SUCI supports the statewide strike call on July 16 by APMC traders and labour unions.
Rotary commissions dialysis centre
Belagavi: To meet the demand for dialysis in the city, Rotary Club of Belagavi, with support from The Rotary Foundation and Rotary Club of Charlotte South USA, commissioned the Rotary KLE Dialysis Centre II project worth $43,000 (Rs 34 lakh). The dialysis centre was inaugurated on July 14 at KLE Centenary Charitable Hospital at Yeller in Belagavi. Chief guest for the function, KLE Society chairman Prabhakar Kore, did the honours in the presence of PDG Rtn Sangram Patil, Dr S C Dharwad, and Dr Rajshekar, Rotary Dist governor nominee Rtn Sharad Pai, president Rtn. Basavaraj Vibhuti, secretary Rtn Akshay Kulkarni and past-president Rtn Dr Keluskar. The donor for this project was felicitated on the occasion. The centre offers dialysis at a nominal cost to beneficiaries.
Students excel in JEE
Dharwad: Nine students of Smt Vidya P Hanchinamani U Science College, Dharwad, have secured above 90% marks in JEE-2022 main examination paper-I: Tejas Kiran Hiremath (97.38), Shivaraj (96.60), Kartik Astagi (95.8), Soumya R Emmi (95.47), Ramesh (94.87), Ranjita Mashal (94.34), Arya P Managalur (94.17), Aniruddha R Hanchinamani (92.66), and Ravi Kotabagi (91.58). As many as 15 students of the college have scored more than 80% and 30 students have secured more than 70% marks, according to a release.
