Until now, precautionary doses were free only for senior citizens, healthcare and frontline workers
LUCKNOW: The state health department will launch the 75-day campaign to administer free booster/precautionary doses to adults between 18 and 59 years from Friday. The decision has been taken in compliance with the Union government's order to give free precautionary doses to those aged 18-59 under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsava.
District vaccination officer Dr MK Singh said, "Necessary arrangements on the CoWIN portal have been made as so far these precautionary doses were being given only in private hospitals." Those who have completed six months after the second dose will be eligible for this dose. "We aim to give booster dose to 10 lakh people in 75 days," he added.
Until now, as per the Centre's decision, precautionary doses were free only for senior citizens, healthcare and frontline workers.
As per the health department, Lucknow has 42 lakh persons above 18 years. In the 18-44 age group, 26.68 lakh people have received the first dose, 22.72 lakh have received the second and 22,797 people have taken the preconception dose.
Besides, 8 lakh people in the 45-60 age group have taken the first dose, 7.27 lakh people have got the second dose and 17,785 people have got the booster dose.
In the 60-plus age group, about 4.46 lakh people have received the first dose, about 4.01 lakh people have received the second dose and 95,000 people have taken the precautionary dose.
