Man dies in Coimbatore road accident

COIMBATORE: A 38-year-old man died after his motorcycle rammed the rear of a container truck on the Ukkadam -Athupalam Road in Coimbatore on Thursday night.
The deceased has been identified as S Shahjahan of Cheran Nagar at Karumbukadai in the city.
The traffic investigation wing (TIW-west) of the Coimbatore city police said Shahjahan was working at a fruit shop in Sowripalayam. Around 11.45pm on Thursday, he was returning home with his son Mohammed Suhail, 13, on a motorcycle.
When they reached near the 19th pillar of a flyover under construction on the road, a container truck laden with tea dust applied a sudden brake. Shahjahan’s two-wheeler rammed the truck, and he and his son were thrown off the motorcycle.
Shahjahan sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot. His son suffered injuries on his shoulders and was admitted to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH).
TIW (west) police inspector Sarojini rushed to the spot and sent the dead body to the CMCH for postmortem. The container truck was taken to the TIW police station. The police registered a case against truck driver Christopher,54, of Kerala.
City police commissioner V Balakrishnan, deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Mathivanan and other police officials inspected the accident spot on Friday morning.
The body was handed over to the family members after the postmortem.
