Punjab police arrest another 13 men of Lawrence Bishnoi, Harwinder Rinda gang

JALANDHAR/CHANDIGARH: After busting an inter-state gang allegedly backed by gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Harwinder Rinda, Jalandhar Rural police have arrested 13 more associates, including nine sharpshooters of the gang. The police also recovered 13 sophisticated weapons and 18 cartridges from their possession.
According to the police, all the arrested persons are history-sheeters and are facing cases of heinous crime in various districts, including Ludhiana, Amritsar, Ferozepur, Tarn Taran, Jalandhar, Khanna, Mohali, and Patiala.
The inspector general (IG) of police (headquarters) Sukhchain Singh Gill on Thursday said in Chandigarh that police had chased down accused persons after a two-week-long operation, led by special teams.
He said after the arrest of 11 members of the gang on June 29 last, the Jalandhar Rural police had been working on some leads to arrest the remaining associates of this gang. “After busting this gang, the Punjab police has thwarted at least five murders and seven armed dacoities and robberies,” he claimed.
Jalandhar Rural SSP Swapan Sharma said as per preliminary investigation, this gang was being operated by Gurpreet alias Ghumma shooter and another Gurpreet alias Gopi, associated with Markas alias Massa, who has been taking directions from Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and Lawrence Bishnoai. Massa, a resident of Ferozepur, was in jail with 18 criminal cases registered against him.
“Gopi and another accused Jobanpreet, who have seven criminal cases registered against them ,were planning to eliminate three members of the Bambiha-Pinda gang. A recce to this effect was also executed and weapons were procured from an arms supplier from Madhya Pradesh,” the SSP claimed.
He said Resham alias Bao and Ghumma shooter, who also had seven cases registered against them, were planning to eliminate two persons from their archrival Bambiha-Gounder gang. The other arrested include: Avtar alias Mangal, Akashdeep, Harpreet alias Kaka, Arashdeep, Lovjit, Bobby alias Baba and Sonu alias Pula, Harman Kalsi of Jalandhar and Balwinder alias Billa.
