Man cheated of ₹3.48L

Rajkot: A 25-year-old man was cheated of Rs 3.48 lakh in the lure of getting a house in the PM Awaas Yojna scheme in Rajkot. Milan Maru, a mason, had applied for a quarter but his name did not figure in the draw by Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC). Maru got to know of a woman named Trupti Parmar and one Mohit Patel, both residents of Ahmedabad, who promised to get him a flat through an acquaintance. They demanded money from him as instalments and Maru paid them the amount in various bank accounts. However, the duo started dilly-dallying and Maru realized he was cheated.
Harassed by moneylender, man attempts suicide
Rajkot: A 35-year-old man attempted suicide due to alleged harassment by a moneylender. Mukesh Makwana, a resident of Raiyadhar, had mortgaged his house with Prakash Jadav about three years ago as he urgently needed Rs 3 lakh. Despite paying the interest and instalments, Jadav started demanding Rs 8 lakh from him, police said. Fed up with harassment, Makwana consumed poison at his house on Wednesday night. His condition is said to be stable.
Two arrested with MD
Rajkot: Two people were arrested with mephedrone (MD) worth Rs 44,500 from a flat on University Road. The special operations group (SOG) raided the flat and caught Jalal Talab Qadri, a fruit seller and Umang Bhut, who works with a private company. Police seized 4.04 gm mephedrone from them. The duo, who got the drug from Mumbai, used to make small packets of MD and sell them for Rs 500 each.
