Dharwad: The Dharwad District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has ordered the State Bank of India to pay a compensation of Rs 1.1 lakh to a person for falsely sending him notices to repay a loan.
Karunakar Shetty, a resident of Yadgiri Chawl, filed a case against the SBI complaining that the bank had been sending notices and forcing him to repay a loan that he had not taken.
The SBI’s Municipality Circle branch in Dharwad and Keshwapur office were sending him notices that he was a defaulter and should settle the repayment issue either by approaching a Lok Adalat or at the branch level.
Shetty had complained that he did not owe anything to the bank.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum headed by Judge Eshappa Bhute said there was a lapse on the part of SBI in providing service and he ordered payment of compensation of Rs 1.1 lakh to Shetty.
