CHENNAI: A clash between two groups of students caused panic in Thailavaram, Chengalpet, on Wednesday. Around 2pm, nearly 70 students of a college gathered on the Chennai-Trichy National Highway and began attacking each other. They started pelting stones, posing a risk to motorists on the road.
The clash happened amid bustling traffic and the students, with their clothes torn, were seen running for cover. A few vehicles were stranded due to the commotion. Police said the incident happened when the students were returning to their place of stay after college. Most of them are natives of other states.
Upon receiving information about the clash, the Guduvanchery police rushed to the spot and restored order. All the students were found to be studying in a private college in Potheri. While the exact reason for the scuffle is not known, police suspect it was something trivial.
The video shot by a passerby has gone viral on social media. None came forward to pacify the students until the police arrived at the spot. No case has been filed.
