Vadodara: While the city has not witnessed heavy rain since Wednesday, some areas in the eastern and western parts remained waterlogged even on Thursday. These areas were inundated during heavy downpour on Tuesday evening.
The localities that are still waterlogged include some in areas like Khodiyarnagar, Sayajipura, Ajwa Road, Waghodiya Road, Tarsali and others. Officials of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) have swung into action to take care of the situation in these areas.
“There are only some spots in Dhaniyavi, Sayajipark, Bapodand other places that are waterlogged. These are located along the national highway on the outskirts of the city,” said VMC standing committee chairman Dr Hitendra Patel. He visited some such localities on Thursday after receiving complaints.
Patel said that the waterlogging was due to water entering the city from the highway.
“There was high tide yesterday and water of the Dhadhar river did not recede easily leading to the situation,” said Patel.
Patel added that a channel had been dug along the highway to ensure that the water in the affected areas receded. He added that an earthen embankment had also been made along the road to Ajwa from Waghodiya crossroads to ensure that water does not enter the city from that direction. He added that as a long-term solution, percolating wells were being planned in localities prone to waterlogging.
