Guwahati sizzles at 38.1C, 2nd highest July temp in 30 years

Guwahati: The capital city of the state on Thursday sizzled under intense heat with maximum temperature going past 38 degrees Celsius by midday, which is the second highest maximum temperature in the month of July in the past 30 years.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Guwahati recorded a maximum of 38.1 degrees Celsius on Thursday, 6.2 degrees above normal, and a minimum of 25.7 degrees Celsius, 0.2 degress C departure from normal. The highest maximum temperature recorded in the city was 38.4 degrees Celsius on July 20, 2017. It is the highest maximum temperature in the last 30 years. The following year, the maximum temperature in the month of July had touched 38 degrees Celsius. According to IMD, in the first 14 days of July, the maximum temperature was below 35 degrees Celsius only once — last Saturday. This month, the temperature had crossed 37 degrees Celsius or more on three days so far.
