Dhanbad railway underpass deaths: Panel to probe accident

DHANBAD: After the death of four labourers, Dhanbad rail division has decided to stop the construction work of the underpass near Pradhankhanta station on Dhanbad-Sindri section of the division late Tuesday night till further orders. The rail authorities have also constituted a one-member enquiry committee headed by senior divisional engineer (estate) Rakesh Kumar.
Though prima-facie, sinking of soil during pushing the pre- casted box is said to be the reason behind the incident, Kumar has been instructed to ascertain the reasons and identify the person or persons responsible. He would also suggest ways to stop recurrence of such incidents, said a press communique released by the rail division.
The railways has also imposed a speed limit of 20km/hr for goods and passenger trains on the Dhanbad-Sindri section. Pawan Choudhary, the officer in-charge of Baliapur police station, said a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder was lodged under section 304 of the IPC against the contract firm, Shivshell Pvt. Co. Ltd, on the basis of a written complaint of senior section engineer Jitendra Kumar. The accused was represented by its owner Amod Kumar.
