Kalaburagi/ Hubballi: Kalaburagi and Bidar districts have been receiving continuous rain since the last three days. On Wednesday too, Kalaburagi received rain since morning to evening, with no respite, in a span of 24 hours, and 49mm of rainfall was recorded.
Khajuri village received the highest rainfall of 72.3 mm and Aland town received 40.2 mm of rain. In Kalaburagi Rural, 36.4 mm rainfall was recorded. District in-charge minister Murugesh Nirani held a meeting to review the rain situation, with the district administration on Wednesday, where he instructed that rail relief works should be carried out on a war footing, and that people who got displaced due to the rain, should be extended all necessary facilities.
He also visited villages in Afzalpur taluk, where he issued cheques to people whose houses were partially damaged in Matolli village. Around five houses were partially damaged, and cheques of Rs 10,000 were given to the affected families.
Minister inspects flood-hit areas in Hubballi
The state government has increased monetary compensation for those who have lost their loved ones, or property – houses or livestock – in rain-related calamities reported after June 1, announced Dharwad district in-charge minister Halappa Achar in Varur in Hubballi on Wednesday. Affirming that the state had enough funds to ensure compensation to all those adversely impacted by excessive rainfall in Karnataka, Achar said, “Officials have been instructed to disburse compensation in accordance with the norms stipulated by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). In Dharwad district, 157 houses have sustained damage owing to unrelenting rain over 10 days.”
The minister assessed the extent of damage at an anganwadi in Anand Nagar, followed by a visit to a government high school in Adarsh Nagar that was damaged by excessive rain. The minister also called on Kasavva Hiregoudra, who sustained injuries when a house collapsed in Yeliwal village, receiving treatment at Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences.
Achar, chairing a meeting of officials, instructed them to attend to attend to rain-related complaints. “Applications seeking compensation for damage must be disposed of within five days. Survey of the damage, and compensation must be carried out in tandem,” the minister said.
