Gujarat: 110 stranded in flood-affected Kutch district rescued

RAJKOT: As many as 110 people and four animals were rescued safely in the flood-battered Kutch district in the past 24 hours ending on Wednesday evening. Teams of NDRF, SDRF and other agencies were actively participating in the rescue missions in Bhuj, Nakhatrana, Lakhpat, Abdasa, Mundra and Mandvi talukas.
Four youths had contacted the Kutch control room seeking help after they were trapped near Dhinodhar hill in Kutch and were surrounded by water flowing from both the sides of the hill.
A team comprising Nakhatrana mamlatdar, the police and local swimmers swung into action and rescued all four of them with the help of ropes. A 70-year-old woman got trapped in turbulent waters of a river near Kotda village in Lakhpat taluka and had to be rescued.
Waterlogging turned Bara village of Abdasa taluka in Kutch district into an island with communication links completely cut off. The district administration delivered 60 kits of ration and medicine to the villagers there with the help of the BSF which delivered the goods through boats.
The security personnel also rescued six people who were trapped in the village. Five more people were rescued and shifted to a safer place by a coast guard team in Vadapaddhar village of Abdasa taluka.
According to district administration, with the possibility of Khengar Sagar dam overflowing in Mundra taluka, 44 persons from eight families residing in Bhukhi riverbelt at Toda village were evacuated and shifted to a primary school for safety reasons. These people were provided food packets, water and medicines.
NDRF rescued 51 people in Mandvi town’s Jantanagar after the area was flooded from the overflowing Vijaysagar dam water.
