RANCHI:
BJP has taken strong exception to the remarks of Congress leader Ajoy Kumar about NDA’s presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu.
Rajya Sabha MP and national president of BJP’s Scheduled Tribe wing, Samir Oraon, said Congress should tender an apology to the nation for insulting the tribal community and a woman who is contesting for the highest post of the country.
The controversy erupted after Ajoy Kumar, AICC in-charge for Sikkim, Tripura and Nagaland, said Droupadi Murmu represents a very evil philosophy of India. While talking to a news agency, he said, “It’s not comparing two candidates, Yashwant Sinha is a very good candidate. Droupadi Murmu is also a decent person but she represents a very evil philosophy of India. We should not make Droupadi ji a symbol of Adivasi….”
Reacting to the statement, Oraon said Congress was unable to accept that a woman from the tribal community has been nominated by Prime Minister
Narendra Modi for the President’s post. “Congress never nominated any tribal for the highest post. Today, the community is elated but the statement of the Congress leader has reflected the Congress’s mentality for which the party should tender an apology to the tribal community,” he said.
In continuation of his statement, Kumar, on the other hand, claimed that the BJP was anti-tribal. He tweeted a few news clips and gave a reminder of the treatment meted out to Stan Swamy, reiterating that the BJP was anti-tribal. He also accused the BJP of using doctored clips to mislead the people.
