
Monsoon News Live Updates: Heavy rainfall is expected over parts of the west coast, including Karnataka, Goa and Gujarat on Thursday, according to the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) latest weather bulletin. Madhya Pradesh, Kerala and coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will receive widespread rainfall over the next five days, the IMD predicted.
At least six persons died in rain-related incidents on Wednesday and 95 people were evacuated as heavy rain battered Gadchiroli, Nandurbar, Nashik and Palghar districts of Maharashtra. Two persons were killed after a structure collapsed in a Mumbai suburb while one person drowned in the Gadchiroli district in east Maharashtra. In Nagpur, an SUV got washed away in a stream at Pandharkhedi.
Six people died in rain-related incidents as downpour continued in several districts in Gujarat in 24 hours, while over 18,000 people were evacuated from the affected areas, officials said. The death toll in rain-related incidents in the state since June 1 has risen to 69.
Parts of Mumbai may receive isolated bouts of extremely heavy rainfall on Thursday, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Moderate to heavy rain is expected in the city and its suburbs.

After the IMD forecast intense to very intense spell of rain in Mumbai Wednesday, the traffic police appealed to motorists to travel cautiously even as waterlogging and traffic snarls were reported in several areas of the city.
“As per the IMD forecast, intense to very intense spells of rain are likely to occur at isolated places in Mumbai in the next 3-4 hours. We request Mumbaikar to travel cautiously and #Dial100 or tweet to us for any further help or guidance,” tweeted the Mumbai traffic police. Read more.
Amid heavy rainfall in Gujarat over the last few days, severe waterlogging was reported in several parts of Ahmedabad, Rajkot and interior parts of western Gujarat.
In the last 24 hours, six people have died in rain-related incidents, taking the toll to 69 since June 1. A total of 27,896 people were evacuated from flood-affected areas and 18,225 of them remained in shelters while the others have returned home, state Disaster Management Minister Rajendra Trivedi told news agency PTI.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘red alert’ for heavy to very heavy rains in Valsad, Navsari, Surat, Tapi, Dang, Narmada, Chhota Udepur districts, as well as Kutch, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Devbhumi Dwarka and Morbi in the Saurashtra region till Saturday. Read more.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reverted rainfall warnings for the northern and eastern Telangana districts to red alert after briefly downgrading it to orange alert on Wednesday morning.
Isolated places over northern Telangana, especially Mancherial, Kumarambheem, Adilabad, Nizamabad, Rajanna Sircilla, Jagtial, Peddapalli, and Karimnagar districts are likely to receive very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall on Wednesday as well, according to Dr K Nagarathna, the director of IMD-Hyderabad. With Pune district continuing to witness heavy rain, the water storage in the catchment areas of all four dams upstream of Mutha river has now increased to 12.23 TMC as of Wednesday morning. Last year, on the same day, the water storage in the dams was 8.79 TMC.
This increase in water storage levels is despite water being released from Khadakwasla dam into the Mutha river. The Khadakwasla dam, which is the closest dam to Pune city upstream of Mutha river, is filled to its capacity, compelling authorities to discharge 11,000 cusecs of water. Read more.

The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) Tuesday said it was carrying out extensive work pertaining to desilting of the city’s master stormwater drains along with regular cleaning of water chutes, road gullies, drain mouths and culverts to help curb waterlogging concerns during the monsoon.
Officials said debris, fallen leaves, garbage, silt and other foreign particles tend to clog drains which inhibit the free flow of stormwater during the monsoon leading to waterlogging.
In its core planning cell meeting on Tuesday, CEO GMDA Sudhir Rajpal approved a proposal for cleaning and desilting of 1.4-km-long leg-2 carrier drain near Dwarka expressway and village Dharampur. Read more.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Wednesday warned of moderate to intense rain spells over Pune city and district. The Nowcast warning lasting till 12 pm was issued on Wednesday morning.
For the second consecutive day, rainfall recorded over Pune city was close to 50mm helping wipe off all existing deficits existing since the start of the monsoon season. The 24-hour rainfall recorded over various parts of Pune city on Wednesday was Pashan 50 mm, Shivajinagar 49 mm, and Lohegaon 28.6 mm, data showed. Read more.
The administration in Gujarat's Kutch district has ordered the closure of schools and anganwadis for two days - Wednesday and Thursday - owing to the heavy rainfall in the region for the last few days and the forecast for more rains till the end of Thursday.
Collector Praveena DK issued an order under section 23 of the Gujarat Disaster Management Act, 2003. 'Due to heavy rainfall in Kutch district and in view of the forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall in coming days, with an objective of ensuring safety and security of children studying in all the higher secondary, secondary and primary schools as well as anganwadis in Kutch district, it is deemed necessary to suspend academic work,' the collector stated in her order issued late on Tuesday evening.

Few buses were damaged as Manali witnessed a flash flood at the Manali bus stand due to heavy rainfall in the area. However, no major loss were reported, according to ANI.
Owing to a cyclonic circulation over northwest and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal, heavy rainfall had not only marooned the Western Ghat regions but had also flooded the paddy farms in Udupi. However, this has not deterred the farmers from descending in the fields. Amidst the marooned houses and farms the daily wage workers wearing a smile are seen collecting the produce from the agricultural lands.

RESIDENTS in certain parts of Ahmedabad continued to battle flooding in their houses as Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) battled staff shortage, two days after the incessant rainfall on Sunday.
“It was only in the afternoon (Tuesday) that AMC sent help to pump out the water that flooded our basement due to the rains Sunday,” said Harshit Shah, a 47-year-old resident of Temple Avenue in Dharnidhar area, whose car remained submerged. Read more.
So far this monsoon season, which the India Meteorological Department (IMD) considers to be from June 1, the Northwest and East districts of Delhi have received the highest amounts of rainfall.
Northwest Delhi, where the Pitampura observatory of the IMD is located, has recorded a ‘large excess’, with the rainfall recorded being around 67% above the normal for the season so far.
East Delhi, where the Mayur Vihar weather station is located, has recorded an excess of 54%. Northeast Delhi, South Delhi, Southwest Delhi and West Delhi have all recorded deficits in rainfall from June. Read more.
