THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A murder case convict at Poojappura Central Jail on Tuesday created trouble for nearly two hours as he climbed atop a tree and threatened to commit suicide demanding to end his jail term.
A case will be registered against him under Section 511 of the IPC for escaping confinement and an internal inquiry was ordered into the incident.
The timely intervention of the fire and rescue officers saved his life as he was pulled into a net held under the tree by them.
The life-term convict Subhash, a Kottayam native, escaped from the hands of a jail officer when he was taken to the jail office outside to collect his record sheet.
He climbed atop the tree in the compound of the shelter home of the social justice department nearby. He said there is no one to take care of his family so he has to be released. He also demanded the district judge to reach the spot to discuss his release.
Reportedly, he was showing some behavioural abnormality ever since he was brought to the jail on June 22. Before that, he was in Nettukaltheri open prison.
He was arrested for not turning back after parole and was transferred to Poojappura jail.
